CIA Modeling Development
Creative Animodel offers collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) primate model for RA researchers. In CIA model, heterologous collagen bovine type II (B-CII) extracted from enzymatically digested bovine hyaline cartilage, is used as foreign irritant to trigger inflammatory response in RA, induce autoimmune reaction in joint tissue and imitate physiological symptoms in primate. Creative Animodel also recommend marmoset RA model for related studies. This model has advantages of fast growth period, reduced capacity for facilities, and higher incidence of CIA model (>90%) than macaque (about 60%).
Following CIA model establishment, cage-side and clinical observations will be performed twice per week to evaluate animal status. Physical sign, body weight, temperature and behavioral changes are recorded according to documented procedures.

Serum C-reactive protein, Neutrophils and platelets
C-reactive protein, platelets, neutrophils and pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-6, TNF-alpha) level in serum are important bio-markers indicating severity of arthritis and inflammation in CIA model.
Bone metabolism can be assessed by monitoring enzyme alkaline phosphatase (ALP), which is equally synthesized in liver and osteoblasts and active during RA disease. When liver ALP level remain stable, enhanced ALP can be marker of ongoing joint erosion.
Immunological analysis for IgG and IgM
CIA-sensitive monkey is associated with MHC class I serotype Mamu-B26 (used to called A26). RA model resistant to CIA showed positive to Mamu-B26 and produce inadequate anti-CII IgM and normal IgG in immunological test.
Increased degradation products of collagen in urinary excretion are important signs for synovial inflammation and joint damage and can be detected by reversed-phase HPLC.
Pathologists in Creative Animodel are very experienced. We conduct histological analyses by using well-proved grading system. Our routine pathological evaluations include inflammation, bone destruction and cartilage damage in knee joint, proximal interphalangeal and distal interphalangeal joint.
