What Is Auto-immune Hepatitis?
Auto-immune hepatitis (AIH) is a disease that the body’s own immune system attacks the liver and causes it to become inflamed.

AIH is divided into type 1 (AIH-1) and type 2 (AIH-2). The disease course shows diverse clinical manifestations ranging from mild chronic hepatitis to fulminant hepatic failure. Approximately 45–80% of patients with AIH will progress to cirrhosis, of which 4% will develop hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Among 40% of patients with AIH, co-presentation with other autoimmune disorders such as thyroiditis, ulcerative colitis, type 1 diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis as well as overlap syndromes including primary biliary cirrhosis, primary sclerosing cholangitis, and autoimmune cholangitis is observed. Immunosuppressive therapy is sufficient in most cases to stabilize the progression of the disorder.
Unfortunately, the etiology of the disease and the mechanisms leading to the autoimmune destruction of the liver parenchyma are only poorly understood. Thus, it is important to use animal models that mimic the symptoms associated with human AIH, in order to improve our knowledge of pathophysiology and help reveal new insights for improving therapy and prevention.
Auto-immune Hepatitis Models Provided by Creative Animodel
We provide different mouse models from acute to chronic AIH wherein the inducing cause to AIH is different.
• Hepatitis mouse models with liver homogenate immunizations
Mouse strain: C57BL/6, BALB/c, A/J, C3/He, C3H, etc.
Immunization protocol: intramuscularly inject syngeneic liver homogenate (LH) and complete Freund's adjuvant (CFA), intraperitoneally inject syngeneic LH (S-100) and CFA, etc.
• Hepatitis mouse models with transgenic (neo) antigen and/or T-cell receptor expression
Mouse strain: C3H/Hej, B10.BR, CBAxDBA/2, CBA, C57BL/6, etc.
(neo) Ag/TCR: glycoprotein 33 from lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus (Gp33), C57BL/6-specific major histocompatibility complex class I (H-2Kb), nucleoprotein from lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus (Np), ovalbumin (OVA), T-cell receptor (TCR), Toll-like receptor 9 (TLR9), etc.
In addition to the above models, we also provide:
• Murine cytomegalovirus infection in C57BL/6 and BALB/c mice
• Knockout models, including transforming growth factor beta knockout in BALB/c and 129/CF mice, programmed cell death knockout and neonatal thymectomy in BALB/c and C57BL/6 mice, and tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated factor 6 knockout in C57BL/6 and SvJ 129/C57BL/6 mixed background mice
