Gastric Ulcers Models
Ulcers are deep lesions penetrating through the entire thickness of the peptic tract mucosa and muscularis mucosa. Based on the site of attack, peptic ulcers may be classified as oesophageal, duodenal, or gastric. The etiology of gastric ulcers is influenced by various aggressive and defensive internal factors such as acid-pepsin secretion, parietal cell, mucosal barrier, mucus secretion, blood flow, cellular regeneration and endogenous protective agents (prostaglandins and epidermal growth factors). Besides, numerous external factors, such as diet, smoke, sedentary life style, excessive intake of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), alcohol intake, stress, spicy food, hereditary predisposition and Helicobacter pylori infection, are responsible for the development of gastric ulcers diseases.

Gastric ulcers are the most predominant of the gastrointestinal diseases with a worldwide prevalence of about 40% in the developed countries and 80% in the developing countries. Several orthodox pharmaceutical drugs such as anticholinergic drugs, histamine H2-receptor antagonists, antacids, and more recently, proton-pump inhibitors have been employed in the management of gastric ulcers, but they provoke many adverse effects. Consequently, there is a considerable need to explore novel treatments for gastric ulcers.
Gastric Ulcers Animal Models Provided by Creative Animodel
NSAIDs such as aspirin, indomethacin and ibuprofen, are known to cause gastric ulcers, especially when abused. This phenomenon has been employed in the development of NSAIDs induced gastric ulcers models. The frequency usage of NSAIDs makes the NSAIDs induced models widely used in antiulcer studies. We have gastric ulcers animal models induced by aspirin, indomethacin and ibuprofen. Those models are important in investigating the potential usefulness of anti-secretory and cytoprotective agents since the underlying pathophysiology of gastric ulcers involves gastric acid secretion and mucosal prostaglandin synthesis.
At Creative Animodel, measurement of gastric ulcerations following their induction is done by first dissecting the stomach along its greater curvature and fixing on a board or transparent glass. Examination is carried out macroscopically with a hand lens and microscopically using a light or scanning microscope. The stomachs can also be scanned using a camera, and later the presences of ulcers are quantified by computer-assisted image analysis.
Creative Animode gathers the top scientists and provides most comprehensive and satisfactory services for our global clients. We have a standard system to assess the extent of ulcerations, the calculation of an ulcer index, as well as the protective and/or curative ratios.
